I've been working with dogs in some capacity for over 12 years, with the last 8 years spent as a professional dog trainer.
I've always been fascinated by behaviour and felt drawn to working with animals. I knew I wanted to help, I just wasn't sure exactly how. After studying my Certificate II in Animal Studies through Taronga Zoo, I thought I was destined to become a veterinary nurse. But after completing my placement, I realised my passion lay elsewhere.
When I learned how many dogs are rehomed or euthanised each year due to preventable behavioural issues, it sparked something in me. I realised that by helping owners better understand and communicate with their dogs, I could make a real difference to the lives of both dogs and their families.
A special mention goes to Cedar, who has been one of my greatest teachers along the way and a product of all my knowledge. She tested me, my skills and my ability to think outside the box.
One thing dogs have taught me is that, if we're open to it, they can be incredible mirrors. They challenge us to be more patient, more present, and more aware of how we show up in the world.
For me, dog training has never been just about teaching commands—it's about building a relationship, and sometimes learning a few things about ourselves along the way.
Living and working in a densely populated dog community, I see a lot of reactivity, frustration and communication breakdown between dogs and their owners. More often than not, these behaviours aren't the problem themselves—they're symptoms of unmet needs, confusion, or a lack of engagement.
That's part of the reason I created Trainer Says.
These cards were designed to give owners a simple, fun way to engage with their dogs, build valuable life skills and create positive training habits. Over the years, I've seen how empowering owners with the ability to communicate clearly with their dogs leads to stronger bonds, greater trust, and the confidence to be the calm, confident guide their dog needs.
I've now worked with hundreds of dogs and their owners, and there is nothing more rewarding than seeing someone realise what their dog is capable of when they're given the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
Because every dog deserves the chance to thrive, and every owner deserves the confidence to help them get there.
